Why? It's simple. Unless you keep yourself in complete isolation during a pandemic, you simply cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to H5N1.
That means that the only thing standing between you and death from bird flu is likely to be your immune system.
Your immune system is your principle defense against illness. It's the system nature designed to save your life from illness. Your best bet is to help it do its job.
Boosting Your Immune System
Step 1
Cut down on sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and junk food. All of these have been shown to compromise your immune system. Better yet-- cut them out entirely.
Step 2
Exercise bolsters the immune system, according to multiple studies. So get moving!
Exercise creates natural resistance to infections by reducing stress, and which increases your susceptibility to infections. Oxygen deficiency leads to decreased immune function and so even moderate amounts of mild exercise can increase immune function. Also, exercise prevents illness is that it increases blood flow and breathing, which flushes germs out of the body by circulating antibodies more effectively.
Also when you exercise, your body temperature increase. This functions like a fever. Fevers create hostile environments for germs .
Moderate exercise is great boost to immune system function, but intense exercise can have the the opposite effect.
Step 3
Reduce Stress. Get plenty of rest. Exercise is proven to help reduce stress, but so does meditation, yoga, Tai Chi. Here's a great stress reducer: when you encounter a work or domestic issue that causes stress in your life, think how insignificant it will seem if the pandemic actually strikes. Then relax- it's not that big a deal after all.
